We are Muslims for Harris Walz. We’re organizing to help Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, to win the November 2024 elections, and defeat Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. We welcome the opportunity to hope for something better in the Harris Walz ticket.

Our support comes with the understanding that we will continue to advocate strenuously for the rights of Palestinians. The Muslim American community has been hurting over 10 months of violence that has rained down on the people of Gaza, while we face Islamophobia, censorship, and violence here at home, tied to the conflict. We call on the Harris-Walz campaign to diverge sharply from current U.S. policy and seek an immediate ceasefire and reassert their commitment to freedom of speech and thought. We must seek a resolution to these conflicts that respects the human rights of all people, Israeli, Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Druze, and others. The U.S. must recommit to international law and lead in bringing an end to apartheid and occupation.

As Muslims, it is our duty to do the least amount of harm, and it is our duty to remain hopeful. We pray for justice, and we work to achieve justice. As Americans, it is our duty to help this nation be the best it can be. And our votes, our voices, our advocacy, will be our tools to achieve justice.

The Trump-Vance ticket promises a future hostile to Muslim Americans in the USA and to our family and friends overseas. They threaten to bring back the “Muslim Ban,” ban Palestinian Refugees from entering the USA, “flatten Gaza like a parking lot,” and deport non-US citizens for protesting for Gaza and Palestine. They routinely dehumanize Palestinians and refer to those who advocate for Palestinians as “Jihadists.” Their policies will exacerbate environmental degradations, deeply hurt poor and middle-class families, and double down on criminalizing black and brown people, undermine public schools, reduce healthcare access for the poor and elderly, and eliminate essential reproductive healthcare for women. In addition, they also promise to further destabilize the Middle East, undermine the United States Constitution, end free and fair elections, and deflect attention from their failures by causing rifts between communities.

The Harris-Walz ticket gives us the best opportunity this election to change dangerous and failed policies, and to heed the concerns of the Muslim American community, including the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Together, the Harris-Walz ticket suggests that progress for all is possible, including on economic, social, environmental, and justice issues. Achieving these and other goals requires us to, in the words of Working Families Party president Maurice Mitchell, who noted that endorsements are part of a game of chess. They do not suggest capitulation, but rather partnerships, mutual responsibility, and real engagement around deep concerns.

We stand with Keith Ellison, Ilhan Omar, and other Muslim Americans in their support of Harris-Walz. We join progressive leaders and advocates like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pramila Jayapal, Barbara Lee, Ro Khanna, and Summer Lee in both supporting Harris-Walz and calling for an immediate ceasefire.

We will NOT go back!
